Monday Piper and I planted 70 tomato cells:

  • Rutgers – Heirloom
  • Gina’s – Family Heirloom
  • Brandywine – Heirloom
  • Rose De Berne – Heirloom we’ve grown and saved seeds from since 2001
  • Mystery seed – Unknown but we’ve been growing it since 2001
  • Sweet cherry tomatoes – That we started in our garden in Lyons back around 2002.

It’s really fun to keep seeds going, we have been eating some of  the same tomatoes for eight years. It’s cool to think the kids will eat the same fruits for the rest of their lives (unless we find better) and some day I will pass on seeds to them for their garden

Today we  cleaned out a section of the basement and hung 4 – 48″ lights with 2 full spectrum bulbs in each. I can’t wait till there are little tiny sprouts down there. It feels so alive.

Daniels 3 Morning Glorys are up but not the Celosia. He has a dozen red roses in the kitchen. He just wanted one but we hadn’t found red ones at any of the local markets, they were only sold in dozens or arrangements. I tried to steer him away from them cause I knew dad didn’t really want to buy a dozen. He just whimpered so pitifully and broken hearted that I looked back at Mike and he conceded. I have never seen a 6 year old so excited to have his very own dozen roses.
